Again, no fond memories of the hotel or the breakfast we probably skipped that morning. Left Rome and headed to Firenze (Florence) - known for its leather-making, Michelangelo's Statue of David, the Duomo Cathedral and the Medici Family. The drive over wasn't as scenic as others. However, on the way into the city we stopped for some spectacular views and a group photo.

Our Trip Manager reassured us that Florence was nothing like crazy, bustling Rome. This would be our chance to spread out and "breathe." Boy, was he right. What a contrast! I shed my outer layers of clothing and stepped off the coach, sun beaming in my face. Noticed some locals tanning on the edge of the river as I strolled the cobblestone sidewalk. Entered into an open Piazza. Now, this is the Italy that I imagined. Suddenly, I felt relaxed. La Dolce Vida!

Went to a Florentine leather-making demonstration then split from the group to have lunch and do some shopping. Found a hole-in-the-wall café in a side alley. Sat at a sidewalk table and ordered a pretty sizeable plate of pasta for only 7 Euros. Met a couple traveling from Florida who recommended seeing the Duomo Cathedral from the top story of the Biblioteca (Library). Took their advice and ended up embarrassing ourselves in front of whole a bunch of college students while trying to find our way out onto the balcony. So, we just settled on walking by.

Due to our newfound confidence in navigating cities on our own, we decided to ditch another walking tour to get lost in Florence. I really loved this city.

Had very little time to get ready for dinner after checking into our hotel. Headed out for a traditional Tuscan meal while we were entertained by Opera. After dinner, some of the group went out while a lot of us went back to the hotel for a good nights rest.
