GOOD MORNING FROM LONDON, ENGLAND

After a seven-hour flight from New Jersey, we finally reach London at about 9PM. Best known for Tower Bridge, afternoon tea, the Royal Family, pub culture, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and Downtown Abbey. London is the most visited city in the world so it was no surprise that the customs line was the longest I had ever seen. It look us an hour and a half to get through customs and get our luggage.

Heathrow is the third largest airport in the world. There are lots of friendly staff around to help you and posted signs are easy to follow. We were able to find the taxis quickly after exiting the terminal.

Caught the iconic black London cab to our hotel in Russell Square. The taxi ride was extremely expensive because Heathrow is actually pretty far from central London. There was also construction in the tunnel on our way out of the airport which caused a lot of traffic to backup. We paid 100 Pounds, which we were expecting; but didn't mind because we were avoiding taking the Tube (London subway). First thing I learned about London: if it is not a black cab or a Mercedes van, it is not a properly licensed taxi.

We checked into the Imperial Hotel London, freshened up and hit the streets to find some food at around midnight. Found an Italian pizza place near our hotel called Verdi. Prices were reasonable - about 12 Pounds for a pizza. Had our first pot of English tea in London with our dinner. The locals we met said the place closed at 2AM. Second thing I learned about London: there are more injuries from bicycle accidents than violent crimes. This eased my mind a little for the walk back to the hotel.

Our hotel was a budget one but by the third night we were pretty attached. We liked the location because it was close to lots of food and most attractions were nearby. It was a bit noisy but one of my favorite things was people watching from our room window.
